Sustainability has become the buzzword in fashion and everyone wants in on the sustainable fashion. Whether you are trying to be sustainable because it is trendy, or because you want to help out the environment, I think being sustainable is fantastic and such a long time coming. However, the struggle with shopping for sustainable fashion is the price tag. The reason most mass retailers are so cheap is that they have very cheap living fares and materials, which are often just terrible for ethical work practices and the environment. Since most sustainable fashion, that isn’t secondhand, is very expensive, I have compiled a list below of the best companies that have very cute clothing, but it’s sustainable and cheap.

1) For Days $$

For Days is a company that specializes in basic pieces that everyone needs in their closet. They sell both men’s and women’s and the clothing ranges from $28 to $89. All their products are 100% recyclable, use organic cotton, and use Cradle Cradle dyes. Their workers, on average, make 20% more than the minimum wage, and 100% of their transportation is offset by carbon credits. For all the different sustainable measures they are providing, I think the price is still fairly cheap and they are providing pieces you will use for a very long time.

2) Kotn $$

Kotn is a brand that focuses on basics and loungewear for women and men, they additionally also carry a home line. Their clothes are of neutral colors and can fit into any wardrobe. Their home line carries duvet covers, blankets, and comforters. Their items range from $28 to about $130. They are a fairly new company, starting only in 2015. Their factory workers have fair and equal pay with very safe working conditions, and their materials are direct trade and organic. In addition to their sustainable initiatives, they have also used their proceeds to build 7 functioning schools in rural Egypt.

3) Goodfair $

Good fair is the only company on this list that sells second-hand clothing, but I wanted to add them to this list because they are approaching thrifting in a very different way. They create curated bundles of different items and sell them for a VERY cheap price. When you go thrifting, it can get awfully daunting because of the amount of product. This company makes it easy for you to go find those thrifting gems from the comfort of your home, and at a very reduced price. With each purchase, they tell you how many gallons of water, carbon emissions, and fashion you are saving. Their tagline sums them up best, “No New Things.”

4) Pact $-$$

Pact has to be my favorite from all the brands I found because their prices are comparable to mass merchant retailers. They sell clothes for men, women, kids, babies, and bed and bath. They sell basic pieces that are staples in anyone’s closets and they have a great sale section if you want to save a little extra money. All their cotton is grown organically and all their factories are Fair Trade Certified. They also carbon offset their shipping, and they will send you shipping boxes to donate clothes to charity. I recommend all of you to check out this awesome brand.

5) Los Angeles Apparel $-$$

Out of all the brands that I listed today, this is the one with the trendiest and most colorful clothing. They sell clothing for men, women, and kids and they have all types of clothing listed on their website. All their workers make a fair wage of about $20 per hour and they have no offshore sites, so all their employees are hired in Los Angeles, and their clothes are made there too. They control all parts of their manufacturing and they support domestic farms and farmers.
