Illustration feature: Ernest Brants and digital inking
This wonderfully intricate illustration was drawn by third-year illustration student Ernest Brants.
For Brants, a defining factor of how he found his style was through finding resourcefulness by being an artist with colorblindness. This led him to experiment with pen and ink throughout high school and learn how to create extremely detailed illustrations with the use of limited or grey-scale color palettes.
This particular illustration of his is a favorite as it is the culmination of the skills he acquired traditionally and his transition into digital art. He expanded the techniques he learned from using ink into a digital plane and created a more finished and rubber-hose look that has become a significant aspect of his style.
