Illustration feature: John Todd and the witch’s castle
The creator of this majestic castle illustration is fourth-year Illustration major, John Todd. The illustration features Todd’s own rendition of the wicked witch’s castle from the classic tale: ‘Wizard of Oz.’
Todd created this illustration for class as part of an assignment to redesign an element from the story. An interesting aspect of this piece is that it includes 3D elements. This was one of the first few illustrations Todd created using the 3D program, Blender.
Learning this program and mastering it is a great accomplishment Todd is extremely proud of himself for acquiring in his skill set. This illustration specifically shows his incredible growth using these programs to create illustrations with a concept-art feel. It is for this reason that Todd considers this one of his favorite pieces.
