This artwork was illustrated by Youown Shin, a third-year illustration student.
Shin created this during the COVID-19 quarantine, where Shin was struggling with what she put as “intense greed for wanting more out of life and to be better.” The sheer intensity of her emotions left her restless in a very stagnant world. This artwork was born as a way to visualize her internal monologue and better understand how to deal with it.
Through the process of completing this artwork, Shin realized the “greed” she was feeling was not born out of materialism, but a hunger for comfort that comes with establishing a sense of self. Whenever she starts to feel this “greed” again, she looks at this illustration and reminds herself of who she is and why she creates: for herself.
Shin’s deep personal connection to her art is evident throughout all her pieces. If you want to see more of who she is through her fantastic visual expression, follow her Instagram.
