Letterpress Printing from Polymer Plates

Traditional letterpress offers artists and designers a wealth of creative options for making posters, books, zines, prints, and ephemera that speak to the contemporary moment. Join professor Ecke to discuss printing from polymer plates, file prep, materials, press set-up, printing and a show-and-tell. Students will create their own letterpress printed piece using polymer plates. Supplies needed by participants: Note-taking materials, apron (paper, ink, and polymer plates will be provided). Sewing Fundamentals: Industrial Sewing Machines and Overlockers

Understand Mass and Create Your Own Mark Making from Life Drawing
Friday, May 7, 1-3 p.m.
Rendering mass is a way to build solid human figures. Develop a library of techniques used for rendering human anatomy. This is a great opportunity for students in all majors, especially students majoring in Fashion, Animation and Sequential Art. Supplies needed by participants: newsprint pad (12X16, 18X24 or 24X36), measuring stick, conte crayon (or willow charcoals/charcoal pencils), kneaded rubber erasers, and white erasers. Lumen Print Enhancing in Photoshop

Make your Lumen prints permanent by capturing them digitally and editing them using Lightroom and Photoshop. Tips will be given for capturing your prints with available tools like your smart phone, allowing participants to discover contemporary ways to digitally explore this historic process.
