Illustration feature: Atharva Ekbote and genderless fashion
These amazing and colorful characters were illustrated by fourth year animation student, Atharva Ekbote.
Ekbote is known among his peers for his amazing skill in stylization, specifically in taking inspirations from the real world and creating his own shape language to portray them.
Ekbote has always had an interest in street fashion and the different ways the urban landscape is represented through it. For these particular characters, Ekbote was transfixed by the evolution of fashion into something that has transcended gender norms.
He visualizes this by putting his male-presenting character in a crop top, which is usually associated with women. His decision to color the fabrics of the clothing in vibrant and eye-catching colors gives the characters a fun personality, indicative of the freedom they feel by choosing fashion that suits who they are.
