The Emmy Awards were hosted on Sept. 20, giving the Hollywood crowd another to dress up in their finest for their first in their first “normal” Emmy since 2019. We saw a lot of bold colors and silhouettes, with an emphasis on solid colors rather than intricate prints. The dresses were big and took up their rightful space. It felt like everyone was having so much fun and there was bright energy throughout all the looks. The red carpet was the perfect way for the summer award season to come to an end: full of light, color and laughter.

Emma Corrin wearing Miu Miu

Emma Corrin, who plays the young Princess Diana in “The Crown,” wore a Miu Miu look that was interesting, to say the least. Miu Miu is often the choice of Emma and I am glad she chooses Miu Miu because I think they are a very underrated designer. Corrin is known to take risks with her fashion and wear looks that are unique and out-of-the-box, however, this look did not really fit in with the night. The Emmys is where attendees have fun with their looks, and this look did not scream “fun” to me. The color and silhouette looked great on her but the cutout gloves and nails with a matching bonnet make the outfit more like a costume. I think she should have left off one of her accessories, such as the bonnet or the gloves — altogether, it was too much.

Anya-Taylor Joy in Dior

Anya-Taylor Joy has my heart when it comes to her red carpet outfits. Her stylist, Law Roach, is known for breathtaking looks that are often the center of attention. I loved the color blocking in her look with the cream, yellow, and red. She was giving me very old Hollywood vibes with a perfect updo and an incredibly long train. This was more glammed than the other celebrities, but Joy and Dior is a match made in heaven.

Mandy Moore in Carolina Herrera

I am a huge “This is Us” fan and an even bigger Mandy Moore fan, but what I didn’t know I was a big fan of is Mandy Moore in red. This look has to be one of my favorites of the night. Moore absolutely stole the show. Her dress was simple yet elegant, and the color alone did the talking. I loved her simple hairdo, and her red lips really sealed the deal. This whole look made me swoon.

Jennifer Coolidge in Christian Siriano

Jennifer Coolidge in Christian Siriano is a look that absolutely shocked me. I loved all the color on the red carpet, but this all-black gown screamed elegance. She looked so stylish and the dress fit her like a glove. I loved the cape sleeve detail and the high neck with the wavy blonde hair. This was just the right amount of elegance and it stood out that night.

Yara Shahidi in Dior

Yara Shahidi is another fashion inspiration of mine, as she always tries out new styles and ways of dressing. She wore Dior Haute Couture in emerald. I loved this dress because it reminded me of the New Look that Christian Dior pioneered after the World War II. The New Look wanted to show the female figure with a tapered waist and full skirt, and this dress does just that. Jason Bolden, her stylist, did a wonderful job bringing the green from her dress onto her eyes with the makeup, and the addition of a retro-style gold jewelry made the look very old-Hollywood.

Gillian Anderson in Chloe

Gillian Anderson in Chloe has to be my second favorite look. She looks so radiant and beautiful in this white two-piece set. It’s very boho-chic with the white strand embellishment. Her makeup and hair are fresh and add to the outfit beautifully. The fringe on the bottom of the skirt along with the embellishment is great in motion and makes the look feel more fun.

Michaela Coel in Christopher John Rogers

I love mentioning Christopher John Rogers whenever I can, and it is proving to be easier by the day with him appearing on every red carpet. It was a big night for Michaela Coel, with her winning for Writing for a Limited Series for her show “I May Destroy You.” She stood out on the carpet in the best way with a beautiful neon ensemble. This outfit was more on the tame side of CJR’s creations, but it absolutely worked. The accessories and makeup worked in harmony with her look to create a statement while remaining playful and elegant.

Jason Sudeikis in Tom Ford

Jason Sudekis was my favorite suit on the carpet. There were other men who were very creative with their outfits, but Sudeikis nailed it with class. Tom Ford always makes my favorite suits and the one of Sudeikis was perfect. I love the color and the texture as they both make a statement without clashing with each other. Sudeikis carries the look handsomely and with gravitas. His show, “Ted Lasso,” won big and I think his look was also a total winner.

Phillipa Soo in Vassilis Zoulias

Phillipa Soo, who was at the Emmys for her role as Eliza Hamilton on “Hamilton,” was an absolute vision in Vassilis Zoulias. This is a designer I had previously not heard of, but once I checked out his work I became an instant fan. I love how the stylist has carefully made the look elegant and cohesive, rather than let it be loud and “too much.” The hot-pink and the statement flower are definitely a lot, but the simple hair, makeup and jewelry keep it anchored.

Kenan Thompson

It only seems fit to end this list with Kenan Thompson, because his pink suit just brought a smile to my face. I always love it when guys wear pink and this was no different. This shade of pink was perfect and I really liked the addition of a slightly darker pink bowtie. The pocket square and sunglasses did throw the look a little bit, but Thompson still managed to look dapper.

The Emmy Awards brought us some very colorful ensembles that brought me so much joy. Red carpets can often be such demure events, but Sunday night was anything but that. The post-Covid red carpet scene is looking to be quite different and I am excited to see how the award season progresses.
