Album of the year? ‘An Evening With Silk Sonic’ is almost too good to be true
The duo that makes up Silk Sonic, Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars, has blessed the world with the debut album “An Evening With Silk Sonic” earlier this month.
The album is like a warm hug. With nine songs, “An Evening With Silk Sonic” reminds us how good music was in the 70s. The album is a mix of the post-Motown age, steamy strings, a playfulness only .Paak and Mars can bring and, of course, the legendary Bootsy Collins.
On top of all that, as a collaboration between Silk Sonic and SelvaRey Rum, each song has its very own cocktail. In order from “Intro” to “Blast Off,” the cocktails are: a Cadillac mojito, coquito, owners reserve on the rocks, ticket to paradise, rum-rita, hot chocolate, espresso martini, skinny piña colada and, lastly, a rum punch.
We should’ve known the album was going to be good; “Leave the Door Open,” the first single from Silk Sonic released in March, remained in the Billboards top ten for 18 weeks.
The two artists are a match made in heaven, a perfect balance, if you will. In Mars’s past songs, every note and beat are thought out; his songs are like well-oiled machines. Combine that with . Paak’s loose and relaxed style; it’s heaven for the ears and soul.
Many call “An Evening With Silk Sonic” a well-needed dance break post-pandemic, and I cannot agree more.
