The scene: make-up, a table full of scarlet stilettos, boots, kitten heels, racks of clothes and a curious pair of furry pants. These elements made up SCAD Atlanta’s Fashion Marketing Co-Op Network’s latest project. On Feb. 27, students in the fashion marketing and management program (FASM) collaborated to use their marketing and business skills, learn from industry professionals and network.

Students developed three looks that included denim, sports and evening apparel. They worked in groups of three to four with a model. Then each group selected a location around SCAD to photograph their model. Photography students used the photos for class projects and professors had to approve the looks prior to each shoot. Johnnie B., fourth-year student in fashion photography said the benefits of being a part of FASM’s Co-Op was working together to create cohesive ideas. “It’s a great learning experience and creative challenge.”

Most of the models’ clothes and accessories came from students’ wardrobes while SCAD fashion design professor, Jason Bunin, provided other apparel from his self-titled line.

“It’s a good hands-on experience for styling — especially for first and second-year students,” said Lauryn Solodar, FASM Co-Op treasurer, who has seen many of the benefits students get for participating. Older students are able to mentor younger ones and it’s good for “building portfolios and relationships.”
