Experts and fans of contemporary design will have an opportunity to learn first-hand about Korean architecture and design. From June 4-12, during Modern Atlanta’s (MA) “Design Is Human” week in Atlanta, MA will feature the first Korean pavilion and exhibition of its kind in the US, recognizing the country of South Korea and its status and contributions to international design and contemporary culture.
The unique Korean Pavilion and Design Exhibition, located in the Two Peachtree Pointe building in Uptown Atlanta, will be a major element of MA11, and is part of MA’s global strategy to attract a larger international following.
In addition to other MA11 events at Two Peachtree Pointe, the Bill Lowe Gallery will be showing the work of three South Korean artists: Jung Kwang Sik, internationally recognized for his masterful fusion of painting and sculpture, and painters Hyunmee Lee and Suk Ja Kang-Engles, along with Japanese-American painter Hiro Yamagata.
On Saturday, June 11, MA11 presents the renowned Korean architect Minsuk Cho, founding architect of Mass Studies of Seoul.
During the week, MA11 features an Architect Studio Crawl, various showroom events, lectures and film screenings, a self-guided smart phone tour of public art in Atlanta, and on Friday, June 10, MA11 will host its fundraiser party for CARE: “MA-ology Africa.” To close the week, MA11 will present a tour of selected modern Atlanta homes on June 11 and 12.
Most MA11 events are free, and will take place at various venues throughout Atlanta, including Two Peachtree Pointe, 1555 Peachtree Street and the Woodruff Arts Center/High Museum of Art. For all details, visit www.modern-atlanta.org.
