Mong Kok is an area in the Yau Tsim Mong District in Kowloon Peninsula, Hong Kong. The population density is extremely high and according to the Guinness World Records, Mong Kok has the highest population density in the world, with a development multiple of four.

“Mong Kok Man”

This was one of the first images captured after successfully exiting the crowded MTR (Mass Transit Railway) train. This man’s demeanor, seated on the ground, bowing in a prayer pose, was a tranquil experience in a sea of chaos.

This is Mong Kok Wednesday afternoon, which was also a holiday. The majority of the time, while walking through these streets photographing (and shopping), I was shoulder-to-shoulder and constantly bumped, rubbed, pushed and shoved by people of all ages and sizes.

“Street Shopping in Mong Kok”

Mong Kok is characterized by a combination of old and new multi-story buildings, with shops and restaurants at street level and commercial or residential units above. Major industries in Mong Kok include retail and restaurants, many of which are fast food, and entertainment.
