Originally the site of fishing villages, Lantau Island is the largest island in Hong Kong, located at the mouth of the Pearl River. Administratively, most of Lantau Island is part of the Islands District of Hong Kong. A small northeastern portion of the island is located in the Tsuen Wan District. This distric is just a few miles from the Tuen Mun District, cite of the Gold Cost Residencies and home away from home for many SCAD Hong Kong exchange students.
Lantau Island Collection: Tai O Fishing Village River
On the main part of Lantau Island, a river splits to the north and west and at this fork lies the island referred to as Tai O fishing village. Two pedestrian bridges cross the river on its northern and western forks. The village is located mostly on the banks of the river. The western and northern parts of the island facing the South China Sea remain uninhabited.

Drying and flattening seafood is a common tradition found for preservation throughout Asia. Seahorse, snails, scallops, shrimp, octopus, cuttlefish and squid are the most common. Salt is heavily applied for curing before the drying process.
