“…Baby One More Time”
Well, I think we all knew this video would make it to the list. The song that launched Britney to superstardom certainly didn’t let down when it was adapted to video. The video starts with a disinterested Britney sitting in class, daydreaming. In this dream sequence, a then 17-year-old Britney goes from a regular Catholic schoolgirl to full on jailbait material in a matter of a few seconds. Who could forget Britney’s notoriously sexy-fied schoolgirl uniform — the pleated, black miniskirt paired with a white button-down tied up to expose her toned midriff, topped off with pigtails. The moment Britney started dancing in the hallways wearing that getup, thousands of adult men wished for the first time that they could just go back to high school.
“Oops! … I Did It Again”
In “Oops! … I Did it Again” Britney confesses that in the past she has continuously led a man to believe she was interested in him when she was not and that she has just … well, for lack of a better way to explain this, done it again. One might think to themselves, “Okay, buddy, if this woman keeps ‘playing games with your heart’ then why are you still putting up with her shit?” but as soon as Britney appears in the music video it all makes sense — what man wouldn’t keep trying to get with her in the misguided hopes that she might change her mind? While her ensemble (a red, latex jumpsuit with long sleeves, long pant legs and a turtleneck) covers much more skin than most of her costumes, the way the latex hugs her curves is so provocative it should be a sin. This music video proved to her fans that even when covered from head to toe, Britney oozes sexuality.
“Toxic”
The plot for the “Toxic” music video fits as many outrageous events as it can into a 3.5 minute video but it works because it’s Britney. The video begins on a plane with Britney as a sexy stewardess wearing a uniform that looks like something straight out of “Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century.” I’m sure you know the one I’m talking about because every Halloween party that took place in 2004 had at least 10 girls wearing that same outfit. So stewardess Britney spots an overweight, conventionally unattractive man and beckons him to join her in the lavatory. Once the two are crammed inside the bathroom we learn that the chubby man is wearing a disguise as Britney pulls off his mask, revealing a beautifully chiseled blonde man who she then proceeds to make out with and afterwards, naturally, she steals his wallet. In between scenes (which besides the airplane one are more or less forgettable, so I won’t bore you with details) the camera pans to Britney writhing around in a nude bodysuit with only diamonds keeping her modesty. That’s right, this video is probably the closest any of us will ever get to seeing Ms. Spears completely unclothed and that part right there would be enough to make it iconic even without the strange hot man disguised as a fat man/thieving stewardess storyline included.
“I’m A Slave 4 U”
This might just be one of Britney’s sexiest videos. With her tousled hair, smoky eyes and sweat-glistening skin Britney gyrates to the beat with no shortage of midriff showing. I know Brit’s not exactly known for her modesty but I don’t think there’s a single scene in this video where her toned tummy isn’t blatantly exposed. Though there doesn’t appear to be much of a storyline for the video, her famous dance moves make it hard to imagine anyone not wanting Britney to be their slave after watching this.
