The Collaborative Learning Center plans unveiling of upcoming projects
The SCAD Collaborative Learning Center (CLC) will reveal upcoming opportunities for the Fall 2017 quarter at an unveiling event in the Digital Media Center Theater Friday, May 19 at 3:30 p.m.
CLC partners with a wide variety of businesses, brands and organizations. Together, they generate projects that help prepare students for professional careers. These professional projects not only help enhance students’ resumes, but also provide students an opportunity to learn unique skills from industry professionals.
Molly Morris, a fourth-year graphic design student who has worked on two CLC projects during her time at SCAD, said she thoroughly enjoyed both of her experiences and recommended that students get involved with CLCs.
“The first [CLC] I did was with Anisa International, and it was a collaboration with photography, graphic design and writing,” Morris said. “It was an intense process of conceptualization, revisions and formal presentations. The second one I did was a design challenge with Spanx. [Founder] Sara Blakely was looking for a new mark, so we teamed up in teams of two or three to produce an original concept, logo mark and inspiration board for our presentation. We presented Round One then had time to narrow down our submission and do a final presentation for her design team.”
Morris also said that what she enjoyed the most was the speed and excitement of the process.
“I think that was the most valuable lesson I learned — learning to work quickly,” Morris said. “It eliminated the hemming and hawing, the indecision and insecurity that sometimes surrounds and engulfs design. Having to think quickly felt more logical, removed emotion and helped to get to the essence of what we were designing.”
The unveiling event is the first of its kind at SCAD Atlanta and Lindsay Stern, the CLC collaboration coordinator, said that she is excited to share the upcoming projects in this format with students.
Refreshments will be served at the event.
