SCAD FASH’s newest exhibition showcases dazzling Chinese couture
SCAD Atlanta students, faculty, friends and family lined up at the doors of SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion and Film to attend a reception Sept. 21 honoring the incredible new “Guo Pei: Couture Beyond” exhibition. The exhibition, on display through March 4, 2018, features more than 30 couture gowns and various designs that have garnered Pei international acclaim.
“In her fantastical, unrestrained creations, Guo Pei imbues contemporary high fashion with ancient tradition, invoking history and mythology through intricate craftsmanship, opulent embroidery and sumptuous detail,” describes the SCAD FASH website.
Students were particularly enamored by the famous yellow cape that Rihanna wore to the 2015 Met Gala. Cameron Taylor, a luxury and fashion management graduate student, said the overall exhibition was exquisite. “When you walk into the Guo Pei exhibit, you are stepping into a world of exquisite detail and beauty,” said Taylor. “As you get closer to each piece, you begin to appreciate the incredible craftsmanship and understand the amount of time that was spent bringing the gowns to life.”
This exhibition brought in more foot traffic than almost any other previous exhibition. Pei was in attendance as well, and shared a beautiful dinner on the greenery of SCAD’s rooftop lounge with faculty. As one of China’s most influential and prestigious couture designers, Pei has styled and created beautiful gowns for many celebrities and public figures around the world. Her designs are intricate, delicate and inspirational. Students should not miss out on viewing this amazing collection.
