Don’t miss the Alliance Theatre on your next visit to the Woodruff Arts Center. Nestled in the same courtyard we walk through to view the fine art at the High Museum rests the Tony Award-winning theater. Despite the recent renovation of the auditorium, the Alliance Theatre continues to bring top quality performing arts to Atlanta.

The 2018 performing arts season will take place in various venues across Atlanta until the completion of the renovation. Playwrights, actors, directors and audiences will explore new stages while enjoying the ever-entertaining productions. Actor’s Express, Fulton County Southwest Arts Center, Porter Sanford III Performing Arts Center, Dad’s Garage Theater and the Atlanta History Center are just a few of the exciting venues. Audiences can even watch Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer’s Nights Dream” performed in the Atlanta Botanical Garden.

As art students, we need to experience all forms of art as well as support our local art community. Make sure to check out these upcoming plays and remember students get $10 tickets on the day of the show.

“Native Guard”

Atlanta History Center
Jan. 13th – Feb. 4th

“Native Guard” is a Pulitzer Prize-winning collection of poems written by Natasha Trethewey, former U.S. Poet Laureate. The poetry collection will be performed on stage in the Atlanta History Center’s Civil War collection. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see these striking poems that discuss race, the civil war, interracial marriage and so on performed in front of the wonderfully curated Civil War collection at the History Center. The second half of the performance will be a discussion about the play hosted by a different leader of the community each night.

“Jungle Book”

Porter Sanford III Performing Arts and Community Center
Feb. 10 – March 4

Rudyard Kipling’s beloved classic has been adapted by Tracey Power and directed by Rosemary Newcott to be performed on stages for kids of all ages. The tale of Mowgli, a boy stranded in the jungle and raised by animals, will be perfect and entertaining for the whole family.

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream”

Atlanta Botanical Garden

Sept. 5 – Oct. 21

Shakespeare’s beloved comedy will be performed in the perfect setting outside in the whimsical Atlanta Botanical Garden. Join the Alliance Theater for a magical night of love and jealousy as Shakespeare’s most popular comedy is performed live, the way it was meant to be heard.
