deFINE ART 2018 features four Atlanta events this year
deFINE ART is an annual showcase of exhibitions, performances and lectures.
The ninth annual deFINE ART begins on Tuesday, Feb. 20 and concludes on Friday, Feb. 23. The signature event features internationally known artists, designers and performers who have made a mark in the fine art world and are an inspiration to students. deFINE ART is observed at the Savannah, Atlanta and Hong Kong campuses with unique and diverse exhibitions, performances and lectures by artists.
“My friends and I look forward to deFINE ART every year as it allows us to view the work of artists from diverse places and learn about their stories,” said Natasha Chandel, a third-year animation student.
At SCAD Atlanta this year, artist and SCAD alumna Wendy White will be speaking about her work at the SCAD Atlanta Welcome Center at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20, followed by a reception for her work titled “Loves” in Gallery 1600 at 7 p.m.
The event continues with a keynote lecture at SCADshow at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21 from artist Toyin Ojih Odutola, whose exhibition is on view at the SCAD Museum of Art in Savannah. Odutola will share her journey, impulses and interests.
Concluding the Atlanta events, deFINE ART will feature a conversation between artist Dustin Yellin known for his multi-layered, glass-paneled work and Alexandra Sachs, executive director of SCAD FASH, as they discuss his highly collaborative artistic practice and experience as founder and director of Pioneer Works, a Brooklyn-based cultural center. This event is on Thursday, Feb. 22 at 2.30 p.m. at SCADshow.
