My name is Triston Montgomery and this is my second year here at SCAD after transferring from Georgia State University. I am majoring in graphic design but I have my hand in many different mediums of art that I enjoy working with such as music, film and of course, photography.
I was raised in a small town called Rockmart, just an hour northwest of Atlanta — a very “old fashioned” town (you know what I mean). I got my first camera for high school graduation hoping to travel the world and take photos of beautiful landscapes but came to the sudden realization of how unlikely that was. Instead, I found that the concepts within my head are much more special to bring to life.
My conceptual photos all derive from situations I find myself in, physically or emotionally. As for the style of my photography, I find inspiration in most things that are dark.
I don’t know many photographers by name, but Gregory Crewdson has really stood out to me since I first discovered him. His photos make me want to jump into the frame to find out what’s wrong because something definitely is. That’s what I try to create when I do conceptual work, but hopefully, I can do it at his scale one day.
Going into photography I had certain intentions. I now see photography as a way to express my thoughts, take beautiful photos of my friends and eventually my wife and children.
