Being raised in the twin-island paradise of Trinidad and Tobago, I experienced the tropical vibes of the Caribbean every day. I like it here in Atlanta, but it’s so different with the city chaos, the constant work, pressing deadlines and crazy traffic. Especially after a long, tough year at SCAD, I consider it to be very important that I go home to relax and unwind, and I can’t wait to spend my summer back there.
I am a first-year film and television student with a passion for visual storytelling. Most of my ideas and goals are influenced by the places and the people of these islands. When I just started getting into photography around the age of 10, I was fascinated by these natural treasures that surrounded me. I’d go out with my family and friends on hikes to waterfalls or beaches, and I’d shoot stills of anything that caught my eye. After getting a new camera with video capabilities, my exploration into the world of film began as I was intrigued by capturing the moving image.
The saying, “there’s no place like home” speaks to me on a different level. I have developed connections with these locations — I feel like this is where I belong. This photo collection, “Island Views” is a series showcasing the beautiful landscapes of my home country. I feel a sense of clarity and comfort when I reflect on these views, and I hope you can too.
