“Art Museum (The High, Atlanta, GA)” by Chloé Allyn
Find a corner, a vantage point,
filled with echoes of disembodied living
watch from the window, corner must have a window
(windows are a sort of transit—emotions, light, memories)
Wait for words, guess the location, build a story
for the pair of heeled shoes crossing the wing
see the wealth that makes good & bad things
happen, stifle bitterness
window, again, look out, catch a breath
be a child, be an island, feel
the past & future
nostalgia of looking out on
the skyline or street below
you are moving space & time, someday a new window, yesterday a
Wisconsin scene, tomorrow your dreams are a field
beyond you
Stand at the altar, you are alone
cry for the artworks, as your
sneaker creaks
across the floor
Stand at the altar, you,
the art, the window: all history (& you are all alone)
