In conversation with Millie Bobby Brown, at SCAD Savannah Film Festival
The future is female, and that’s what actress Millie Bobby Brown is trying to work towards. After joining SCAD Savannah’s Film Festival, she discussed her roles in the hit Netflix show, “Stranger Things”, and the recently released movie on Netflix, “Enola Holmes”. She mentions how rewarding it is for the amount of female viewership she receives, where she thinks that showcasing female empowerment in both real-life as well as on-screen, is very important and a fulfilling part of her job.
Before receiving her big break on “Stranger Things”, Brown starred on TV shows like “Once Upon A Time in Wonderland”, “Modern Family”, and “Greys Anatomy”.
According to Rosa Matos, a Sophomore studying Graphic Design, she found the event “to be very fun” and “the conversation itself was very interesting.” She went on to state that “as the audience, we really got to learn how hard it was for her to get into such complex characters from a very young age.”
Brown went onto discussing who her biggest role models are, inspiring her to take on the role of Enola Holmes. She called the names of other very famous female actors, such as Angelina Jolie, Natalie Portman, Winona Ryder and, Yara Shadidi.
After being asked if this conversation with Brown was inspiring or motivating after listening to a young successful woman in the creative industry, Matos stated “100 percent yes! There wasn’t necessarily a specific thing she said, but rather the overall energy and drive that she radiates, that’s what motivates me, especially the story of how she insisted on bringing Enola to life. Millie is an incredible young woman and I feel very happy for the upcoming generations who’d have someone like her to look up to.”
Brown really is an inspiration to many. In 2018, UNICEF named Brown its youngest-ever Goodwill Ambassador.
