Symmetry for Character Design (Photoshop CC)

A great way to develop ideas for characters, designs, projects, and artworks is using symmetry. In this workshop, students will learn how to harness the power of the symmetry tool in Photoshop for quickly generating visual ideas! This workshop is for beginners, intermediate and advanced creatives.

Loving Vincent: A Discussion of Vincent Van Gogh

Independently view the world’s first fully painted feature film, “Loving Vincent” (2017) — a fictionalized account of Vincent Van Gogh’s last days and the circumstances of his untimely death — and then join art history professor Emily Webb for a discussion of the man, his art and the making of this groundbreaking masterpiece.

Zoo Atlanta – Where the Wild Things Are
Friday, Jan. 15, noon-2 p.m.

Sketch and discuss the process of capturing animal attributes with animation professor Greg Azzopardi and illustration professor Melissa Howell on this drawing excursion to the Atlanta zoo. Please meet at the main building exit at noon. SCAD transportation will be provided. Students should bring drawing materials (pencils, markers, pads).

The Greatest Show in Atlanta
Friday, Jan. 15, noon-2 p.m.

Capture the marvelous Mercedes Benz Stadium, either through photography or rendering, jointly led by professors Forest McMullin and Peili Wang. Please meet at the main building exit at 12:30 p.m. SCAD transportation will be provided. Students should bring rendering materials: Graphite Wood Pencil (HB) or mechanical pencils, Sakura Pigma Micron Pen (005, 0.3, 0.5, Brush) or other brand of graphic pens, roll artists tape or Drafting Dots, 12-inch roll of white/yellow tracing paper, sketch book. Photography materials include: digital camera with a zoom lens capable of shooting wide angle. A tripod will be helpful, but not necessary.

Discover and explore creative ways to develop unique silhouettes and characters. Participate in a live demonstration and experiment with different methods to create memorable and fun designs. Participants will need pencils, pens, sketchbook and/or drawing tablet.

Laser Cutter Demonstration

Students will learn the difference between raster engraving and vector cutting and how to set Rhino or Illustrator files to achieve their desired results. Multiple examples of laser processed materials will be shown. Materials, submission requirements, and processing times will be covered.

1600 Woodshop Certification Demonstration

Students will be shown how to safely operate the 1600 Woodshop equipment. The miter saw, band saw, panel saw, sanders, and some hand tools will be covered. After attending the demonstration and completing the online written test, students will be certified to use the 1600 Woodshop.
