Glimmers: your new favorite band
Always meant to be under a spotlight, singing her heart out in front of a crowd, SCAD senior Maggie Schneider enters 2021 with a head full of music and exciting projects for her band, Glimmers.
Fans of pop-rock will want to keep an eye on this band, because once music venues start re-opening and live shows return to our lives, Glimmers will be blessings stages with spectacle and their enchanting sound.
To understand their music, their passions and purpose, it’s important to understand their origin. Before the name Glimmers ever orbited Maggie’s head, she performed as a solo-singer for over five years, working with different musicians until destiny, or perhaps some luck, introduced her to the current line-up of artists that make the rest of Glimmers.
It is rare to find a group of musicians that match so perfectly both on and off the stage. The first time I saw them perform live at the Masquerade in Downton Atlanta, I could tell they were best friends, and not just bandmates. When they’re not entranced by melodies under a spotlight, the guys of Glimmers are goofing around, mostly picking on one particular bandmate called Alex Norrell. That’s how they show their affection.
After an entire year performing together, when Maggie knew there wasn’t anyone in the world she’d rather share the stage with (except Hayley Williams on a duet), she decided to turn her solo act into a collective band. This transition began in March of 2020 and concluded in June, when Glimmers debuted with an EP titled “Cluttered Heart.” Released on Common Ground Collective, this EP has five song that tell different stories about relationships and growing up, with a distinct sound that makes you want to sing and yell with Maggie, to get it all out, and find some form of solace and understanding in the music.
Fun fact: yours truly starred in the music video of their song “Mixed Signals.”
Now would be a good time to start preparing your eardrums for a delightful auditory experience. Glimmers returns with a new song on Jan. 29, titled “Not Good at Goodbyes,” which will introduce us to their next EP, and possibly induce a tear or two. Singer and songwriter Maggie Schneider claims this was her favorite song to write so far, as it was a cathartic and intimate experience, where she drew inspiration from Paramore, Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato, All Time Low, and the Band Camino. Remember to mark your calendars.
The new EP is comprised of five songs and will treat fans to more music videos. These follow an intricate narrative about a relationship ending, and after a series of emotional hardships, a possible reconciliation.
