‘The Deal’: A short film by Jalen Smith
Atlanta is well known for its booming entertainment industry. It offers a wide range of creativity from photography to major films, especially by Tyler Perry. One Kennesaw State student is making his imprint in the film industry with his recent film, “The Deal.”
“The Deal” is one of Smith’s many short films about two drug dealers meeting their bosses about getting out of the game, or in this case “the deal.” The film features Tiandre Climes, Keith Douglas, Ethan Green and the actor/ producer, Jalen Smith. The film offers an array of distinct characters and an eccentric story line that follow the narrative of a planned situation gone bad. Here’s a short clip from one of the scenes:
All produced, directed, written and performed by Jalen Smith.
When asked about the process of producing, writing and acting for this film, Smith had the following to say.
“This was an amazing experience for me. I say that because of the leadership I had to offer and the synergy my team brought to the table. It taught me how to become a better organizer and it also taught me how to lean on others to help me create what I envisioned. Leadership itself for me, is not just based on domination, it’s about inspiration, learning and growing. This film for me was a huge eye-opener. I want this to be the project that connects with my true audience: the world.
However, I do want to say that this production wasn’t just my doing or my team’s doing, it was an opportunity given to me by my God. And if there is one thing I can leave with any other filmmaker out there is that great leaders don’t set out to be a leader, they set out to make a difference. It’s never about the role; it’s about the goal.”
