The Connector reaches out to Emily Jahr, a first-year photography student.
How would you describe this photo collection?
These images are a part of a collection I call “The Emotions of Light.” They were taken at different times of day to showcase how light affects the mood of each photograph and how the stereotype of light, such as dark=sad isn’t always true.
Can you illustrate your creative process?
My creative process was largley based around the idea of light. I scoped out a secluded location that would allow me to isolate the subject from the negative space. The dress was an important touch, because is it also added a sense of innocence, therefore pushing the subject as the focus and the overall idea of evoking the emotions behind light.
During the photoshoot I guided the model to pose in ways that would allude to vulnerability and a sort of bittersweet nature. My goal was to enhance the impact of the lighting in scene and create a story for each image.
Whenever I shoot I want to keep the model comfortable, while finding ways to push both of our creative visions.
Post editing was also really important to push the colors in each image.
