The legends, the icons: Daft Punk is no more
Daft Punk, a French duo, has announced their retirement.
Daft Punk released a video, “Epilogue,” earlier this week much to the fans’ dismay. The video shows Daft Punk in their well-known helmets of silver and gold walking in the desert in silence. Soon one half of the duo self explodes leaving the other to walk alone into the sunset.
“Epilogue” is only 7:58 long. In true Daft Punk style, it’s a beautiful abstract mini-movie. If you are a huge fan, be warned: you might cry.
Daft Punk has been in their prime for almost three decades and their influence stretches all over the world. Just look at the comment section of their last video there are many languages all thanking Daft Punk for their music.
Daft punk first hit the music scene in 1998 with a song called “The New Wave” soon after “Da Funk.” Both are classics, but “Da Funk” was featured on their first album in 1997. Daft Punk’s last album, in 2013, was called “Random Access Memories” with hits including “Get Lucky.”
But Daft Punk did more than albums. They collaborated with some of the hottest musicians. Without Daft Punk we wouldn’t have Kayne’s “Harder, Better, Faster Stronger.” Or we wouldn’t have The Weeknd’s “StarBoy.”
Though they are no more, their musical influence will always remain.
