TikTok star Sienna Gomez has received backlash over her new clothing release of gray sweatsuits. The 17-year-old has more than 15 million followers on TikTok and her own clothing line called “Confident Is Cute.”

Like most of her fellow TikTokers, Gomez gained popularity by dancing, but she has also come to be also known for her body-positivity messages. This makes the controversy all the more surprising.

Earlier this month, Gomez released a new collection which has “Did you eat today?” stamped in front, sparking rage from her fans. The question “Did you eat today?” is associated with people with eating disorders and is used to be encouraging for people in recovery. It’s meant to show support for people with eating disorders. In a similar line, the Tamron Hall Show once featured TikToker Selah Montoya, who makes videos with the simple saying, “Let’s have a meal together,” aimed to show affected people that they are not alone.

Gomez, on the other hand, is accused of glorifying and even using eating disorders for her own benefits. Fans weren’t happy. Before the original Instagram post of the merchandise was deleted, Dexerto reported that one Instagram user said that Gomez was “taking people’s genuine struggles and sticking it on fabric for profit. She couldn’t care less about people with eating disorders.”

After the backlash, Gomez issued an apology and took the merchandise off her clothing website.
