Muni Long steps back into the spotlight with new music
I think we can agree that songwriters deserve as much fame as the artists performing the song. But too often, that’s not the case. So make way for the singer-songwriter Muni Long as she holds the spotlight — all to herself.
Long released her first video, “Midnight Snack,” in 2020 from her EP entitled “Black Like This.” The title track is beautiful and inspiring. It’s a definite must listen to.
But her newest EP, which was released earlier this year, entitled “Nobody Knows,” is a game-changer and a lifesaver. With witty lyrics and classic (with a twist) R&B vibes, what else could a person need?
Probably the knowledge that this isn’t Long’s first run around in the music industry. Muni Long’s real name is Priscilla Renea, and she has been making music since she signed at 18.
Under her real name, Renea released two albums: “Jukebox” in 2009 and “Coloured” in 2018, both with their strengths. Throughout that time, Long was writing songs — well, hits.
In 2010 she co-wrote “Californa King Bed” for Rihanna. The following year she co-wrote Selena Gomez’s “Who Says.” The list goes on. She has written for Demi Lovato, Chris Brown and Little Mix, to name a few. Though the biggest hit she co-wrote was “Timber” — you know, the iconic song with Pitbull and Kesha.
But Muni Long didn’t come until 2019. In an interview with Vogue, she said her new persona of Muni Long “Is the part of me that I always needed. She’s the protector of Priscilla. I knew I wanted to focus on me. I’ve been serving others for the last 12 years, and I started to feel unappreciated and captive.”
So expect to hear Long everywhere if you aren’t already listening. You can follow Muni Long on Instagram, where she gives updates and teasers for her upcoming releases. Long’s next single, “No R&B” ft. Ann Marie, releases Oct. 13.
