Happy New Year! The Chinese New Year took place on Feb. 1, 2022, and on Feb. 15, SCAD Atlanta hosted their very own Lantern Festival for it in the Hub. Many students attended and truly enjoyed the show!

The Chinese New Year is a festival that is celebrated at the beginning of each year on the traditional lunisolar and solar Chinese calendar. Red, for good fortune and happiness, together with gold for wealth are the auspicious colors of the new year.

Students were able to see the Chinese lion dance performed by a group hired by SCAD, and everyone there loved it. The smiles and cheers that erupted after each performance proved that the event was a success.

SCAD offered many Chinese snacks to the students in the Hub, where the festival took place. Some common Chinese New Year snacks include rose cookies, bakkwa, kuih bangkit, mini spring rolls and more.

Check out the video below to see how students were wished a Happy New Year.

Each new year is named for one of twelve creatures, and this year is the Year of the Tiger — as heard in the video above. According to NBC News, “The tiger embodies courage and bravery, so the new year could symbolize resilience and strength — even in times of struggle.”

Have a great and prosperous year, fellow students!
