SCAD hosts installation artist Mark Jenkins’ 'Scotch Tape Off The Roll' sculptures and contest
The Savannah College of Art and Design and 3M have collaborated to bring five whimsical and thought-provoking works by installation artist Mark Jenkins to SCAD locations in Savannah and Atlanta through Feb. 14. The figurative pieces, made out of the ubiquitous material Scotch Packaging Tape is a specialty of the artist, who is known for his public works around the world.
Three of the five sculptures “Scotch Off The Roll Sculpture #1-3” will be located in SCAD Atlanta’s Hub, 1600 Peachtree St. in Atlanta. “Scotch Off The Roll Sculpture #4“ will be located at the university-owned and operated Gryphon Tea Room, 337 Bull St., and “Scotch Off The Roll Sculpture #5,” within the Alexander Hall Gallery, 668 Indian St., in Savannah.
While at the sculpture sites, viewers will have the opportunity to “check in” through the location-based mobile platform Foursquare, and, by doing so, assist student scholarship funding. If the sculptures receive 500 check-ins through Feb. 14, the SCAD School of Fine Arts and sculpture department will receive a $10,000 donation on behalf of Scotch Brand.
Additionally, through Feb. 28, 20ll, national participants can compete for a $5,000 cash prize from the Scotch Off the Roll Tape Sculpture Contest, sponsored by 3M; the contest celebrates creators and enthusiasts of packing tape sculpture.
