Here at SCAD, spring break always prompts two questions for the creative soul: to sleep or to create. Throughout the ten-week-long quarter, students are pushed to produce their strongest work. When spring break rolls around, some students use the time to rest and recharge.
Daniel Jones, a second-year interactive design and game development student, spent his week and a half on an adventurous road trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with a few other SCAD students. On the way, they encountered a spooky prison on a dark back road and lived off of a very spicy chili made by Hank Silman, another second-year interactive design and game development student. When asked if he spent any time creating, Jones said that digging holes in the sand and taking pictures of sunsets were his creative outlets.
“I didn’t get to learn anything like I had planned on doing,” Jones said. “The beach was just screaming my name so loudly.”
First-year fashion design student Morgan Jordan found herself relaxing over break with friends and family. “I didn’t go to Florida like I was planning on doing, but it’s okay,” said Jordan. Though there was no chili, she did get to celebrate her nineteenth birthday. Like Jones, Jordan used the break to give her creative soul a rest.
Perhaps SCAD students aren’t as wild on spring break as students from more traditional schools, but at least they’re well rested and ready to take on the next quarter.
