Dear single people out there
Whether you have been single for life or a few months
There’s no shame in being single
There’s no shame in not needing anyone to complete you

Dear single people out there
Our culture tells us that you’re not complete without a partner
That romantic relationships are the only relationships that matters
Where are the songs, movies and articles about
the power of friendships and families?
There are so many types of relationships out there
that are as legitimate,
emotionally intense
and meaningful
as mere
romance

Dear single people out there
For a while I felt like being single was a sin
because somehow not dating is my failure
that I was so deeply flawed that I am unwanted
Maybe you felt the same way too once in a while
Those weekends you watch movies alone
Those afternoons when couple pictures flood your social media feed
Those Valentines Days when you see advertisements equating dating as happiness
Telling you are single and you should be unhappy

Dear single people out there
The truth is you could be dating and miserable
You could be dating and still feel lost
You could be married and feel lonelier than ever
But
You could be single and
at the happiest phase in your life
Surrounded by loving friends and family everyday
Focusing on polishing your career and creativity
Plotting out goals every day,
Enjoying you alone time anywhere anytime
Look around, you’re so deeply loved

Dear single people out there
Romantic love is not a magical pill
Nobody can fix your life
You’re responsible for your happiness
Happiness is not a destination it’s a journey
Happiness starts now,
not when you found the mythical “the one”
I wish you a happy Single Awareness Day
I wish you to be — happy.
