We’re an art school, so of course we have dope tattoos! This week I ventured around SCAD to capture some of these distinctive tattoos. Whether they are random or super meaningful, they all express unique qualities or stories of the people who have them.

Will Staples, a third-year graphic design student, said “I got it because I saw that the artist, Dusty Cramer, had done a kraken on someone and I loved the design. I asked if he’d want to do something similar and to do whatever he wanted with it. I showed up on the day and this is what he had drawn out. I chose the design because it was nonsensical, well executed, and flowed well on the forearm.”

Nina Zamora, a first-year film and television student, said “I got this tattoo because I wanna include a pineapple in all my films. The fire around it represents my zodiac sign.”

Ellie Briggs, a first-year photography student, said “I chose to get a rose tattoo because the flower represents new beginnings and hope, and moving to Atlanta was a difficult time for me. So it’s an important reminder to stay hopeful.”

Derriyon Winns, a first-year film and television student, said “This tattoo is Tārā. Tārā encompasses Buddha’s feminine energy and is seen as the mother of liberation in Buddhism. I got it after I was honorably discharged from the Army as a promise to never deviate from who I am again, and also as a tribute to Buddhism. I studied Buddhism in the Army to connect with my inner being, as I was in and out of mental hospitals.”
