Adele is back with new single ‘Easy On Me’
Earlier this week, Adele released “Easy On Me” after her almost five-year sabbatical.
The single was quick to break records, including making Spotify’s number one. “Easy On Me” became the app’s most-streamed song in one day (Oct. 15), pushing the previous record-breaking BTS song “Butter” out the water.
Even after one day, the single soared on all charts from the U.S. to the U.K., but no one is more excited than her best friend, Drake. The song and the album seem to talk about her divorce, her general experiences and include a letter to her 8-year-old son.
Adele told Vogue, “I wanted to explain to him through this record, when he’s in his 20s or 30s, who I am and why I voluntarily chose to dismantle his entire life in the pursuit of my own happiness.”
“Easy On Me” is a piano ballad in true Adele style; the lyrics are sung with emotion only Adele can trigger. The music video that accompanies the single is beautiful, and to top it off, we get to listen to the artist’s iconic accent. But the best part is her singing her heart out — if there’s one thing about Adele, we can always count on her to sing in a chair. But don’t just expect cry-your-heart-out-ballads; Adele has promised an array of styles and music genres will be on her upcoming album “30.”
After releasing the music video, fans were quick to chime in with the theories, the best one being the connection between songs “Hello” and “Easy On Me.” Both music videos seem to be filmed in the same house. But in “Hello,” Adele is moving in, while in “Easy On Me,” she is moving out, symboling the artist moving forward in life.
Some have even taken it a step further and not only connected “Hello” with “Easy On Me,” but add “Chasing Pavement” and “Rolling in the Deep” to one big storyline.
So will “Easy On Me” continue to rise on the charts? Yes; it’s Adele.
Adele has time and time again proved why she is a true artist; no one can make you cry like she can. The album “30” is set to release on Nov. 19.
