The Connector

Friday, April 16, 10 a.m. SCAD Atlanta, Rooms 256-257

Students have the opportunity for a rare, in-depth discussion as well as a question-and-answer session with master graphic designer Massimo Vignelli. His design philosophy? “I like design to be semantically correct, syntactically consistent and pragmatically understandable; to be visually powerful, intellectually elegant and, above all, timeless.”

Thursday, April 15, at SCAD Atlanta Events Space, on the fourth floor of Building C, Vignelli will lecture and hold a book signing. The book signing begins at 4:30 p.m., with the lecture beginning at 6 p.m.

An iconic designer for American and European companies and institutions, Massimo Vignelli specializes in graphic and corporate identity programs, publication design, architectural graphics, exhibitions, interiors, furniture and consumer product design. Vignelli’s work is exhibited in permanent collections and museums worldwide, most notably, the Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Brooklyn Museum and Cooper-Hewitt Museum in New York. “Vignelli: From A to Z” is a treasure trove of the thoughts by designers Lella and Massimo Vignelli. Beginning with the intriguing ‘A for Ambiguity’, the book continues through the alphabet, describing their approach to subjects as diverse as book design, discipline, furniture, garment design, interior design and lighting, newspapers, packaging and typography. Massimo and Lella discuss each subject in detail, accompanying the text with numerous illustrations that provide a rare insight into the minds of two exceptional modernist designers. Book sales are by cash or personal check only.
