As the quarter reaches its end and finals creep closer, many students become exhausted, creatively drained and lazy. All we want to do is lie on the ground and cry, or sleep for hours on end. Even though we feel down, there are ways to stay on top of your work. Here are four students’ advice for destressing in preparation for finals week.

Second-year graphic design student Courtney Peplin, also minoring in photography, spends time with her pets to relieve stress. “I’m a dog trainer. Going out and practicing my sport with my dog is a great way to clear my head and get me in the correct mindset to work hard on any projects I have,” said Peplin.

First-year photography student Luke Cocks spends his downtime hiking and going on adventures. “As a photographer, I like to document my hikes and explore abandoned places. This gets me inspired to create more art.”

Second-year animation student Michele Miller enjoys simple things to get her through stressful times. “I just like to relax. I play games and catch up on TV shows that I’ve missed. I also talk to my family and hang out with friends to calm me down.”

Second-year film and television student Bryce Boehler rests in his free time to manage the stress of his classes. “Sometimes you just need to lay down and relax,” said Boehler, “Take a few moments for yourself and catch up on sleep you’ve lost. It will help recharge you for more work.”

As finals week comes closer, try these tips to refuel creatively and prepare yourself for the sleepless nights to come.
