For this particular piece, Kelly goes in-depth about seeing the exhibit and why this dress in particular drew her attention: “The Pierre Cardin illustration was the very first SCAD fashion exhibit I ever went to. And everything was so gorgeous but when I came upon the orange dress, I’ve just never seen anything like it. The shape was just so interesting and the tent part was so unconventional. I love designs that are otherworldly and have a lot of unique structure and volume, honestly painting glittery things is very fun. So I just sat on the floor and sketched it and added the base colors, and worked in the details later.”
