The Connector

This festive and adorable illustration was drawn by fourth-year animation student, Samuel Kem.

Kem created this piece for an elective illustration course he took this last year. The assignment was about advertising, so Kem referenced a classic holiday staple on our billboards: Coca-Cola.

From their famous jolly Santa Claus, and endless commercials, the Coca-Cola company has established themselves as a household holiday name with their creative marketing. One of their past slogans was “Together is Beautiful,” which Kem used as his inspiration for the piece.

Kem chose to go a more secular route and have the festive season represented by a king and queen skating in a Snowflake wonderland, rather than having symbols of a specific holiday. The small romance between the king and his queen also illustrate this slogan in an adorable way.

Kem was inspired by the 1930’s rubber hose style for this piece. It fits amazingly well with this advertisement, as Coca-Cola has been a classic in the United States pop culture, giving the ad the timelessness the company represents.

Kem is a fantastic artist with an extremely distinct style reminiscent of many past animated styles familiar to our childhoods. His work is beautifully crafted and indicative of who he is. If you want to see more of Kem’s work, his Instagram is @kemsamuel88.
