We’ve hit week five. You know what that means? Midterms.

Okay, so generally midterms don’t get students feeling super excited. In fact, a majority of you may be moaning and groaning, or otherwise making a sound similar to a zombie (oh, the joys of lot of projects and little sleep).

Thank goodness there’s a nice scene going on in Downtown Atlanta to replenish your tired mind and get your creativity free-flowing again! That’s right! From October 17 – 23, the annual Art Festival of ELEVATE is going on! Presented by the City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, ELEVATE 2014 will have over 100 artists participating.

The theme of this year’s ELEVATE is Social City, and its focus is “physical environment with regard to social interconnectedness and individual experiences” as quoted from the ELEVATE 2014 brochure. Some of the attending artists include Branden Collins, Joanie Le Mercier, The Goat Farm, Dance Truck and so many others! You’ll be in for a treat of seeing sculptures, installations and projections on buildings, dance, spoken word artists, daring aerial acts and even mobile art galleries.

And if that isn’t enough to pique your interest, you might be pleased to know that ELEVATE is going to start off with a bang. Or rather, a downtown art and music block party. This will happen at Fairlie-Poplar on Oct. 17 at 8 pm.

The rest of ELEVATE will take place at Woodruff Park, Gallery 72, Five Points Plaza and Fairlie-Poplar district. But don’t forget, some art will be mobile and other exhibits will take place in unusual locations downtown — so don’t be afraid to play to the Social City theme and ask around!

If you’re looking for more information about this excellent event, such as a schedule of events, then visit the official ELEVATE site.

Have fun and ELEVATE your senses!
