Based on the Pulitzer Prize winning collection of poems by former  Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey, the newest production by Alliance is sure to be an interesting show. The story juxtaposes the personal life of Tretheway as he deals with being the child of an illegal marriage of a Caucasian father and an African American mother in 1960s Mississippi, with the experience of a soldier in the first African American Union troop during the Civil War known as the Native Guard.
