SCAD Atlanta has always celebrated cultural and racial diversity, and this Thursday’s Native Language Sharing event will do just that.
The International Student Services Office (ISSO) will be hosting Native Language Sharing at 1 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 20, in The Hub. International student volunteers will write down event participants’ names in a foreign language that they know; such as Chinese, Korean, Arabic, Farsi, Sanskrit, Hindi and more. This is also a chance for them to discuss the different cultures they’ve grown up in, the diversity of languages, values and more.
Peter May, Director of ISSO estimated SCAD Atlanta currently has around 800 international students from more than 68 nationalities, which make up about 26 percent of the overall student body. He explained the purpose of the Native Language Sharing event is to celebrate SCAD Atlanta’s international student population through connecting them with our community with engaging and interactive activities, which, he said, “many of whom may be new to the school, as well as learn about the diverse community at SCAD.”
International students who want to volunteer can email Peter May at pmay@scad.edu before Thursday.
All students are encouraged and welcomed to participate.
