As a photographer, you typically shoot on location before moving onto studio shoots. When you do location shoots, there are a few things to consider — color, leading lines and crowds. Leading lines is a compositional technique where the viewer’s attention is drawn to lines that lead to the primary focus of the photo, according to the Digital Photography School. Here are some places in Atlanta to use as the backdrop of your next photo shoot.

Ponce City Market

Ponce City Market has many features that work for a great shoot. There’s a variety of graffitied walls, colors, textured brick and glass. You can capture beautiful portraits and street shots, then grab a bite to eat at one of their many restaurants.

High Museum of Art and ACA residence halls

The High Museum of Art is a short walk from SCAD Atlanta’s main campus and just around the corner from ACA. While the exhibits can be a good photo opportunity, the outside areas surrounding ACA and the High are just as aesthetically pleasing. The white and gray tones of the walls, paired with the natural leading lines of the architecture creates a stunning backdrop for photos.

Sidewalks of Midtown

I am always looking for locations for a photo shoot, even when I’m walking down the street. Sometimes the best places are right in front of you. Look around the street and find a place for you. Turn your photo shoot into an adventure and find new spots. Just be careful and don’t block foot traffic.

SCAD

Another great place for students are the facilities we use every day. SCAD buildings have beautifully designed areas that are crafted for aesthetics. Make those spaces work for you. We often ignore the places we visit every day, but try to look at them differently and find their beauty once again.
