Kate Pretaport is a stylist, designer and lifestyle blogger. If you follow her, you will be bombarded with everything, from product unboxing videos to New York Fashion Week coverage. Pretaport promotes indie brands, self love and body positivity. She is also a great source for advice, frequently showing the ins and outs of how to run a successful lifestyle brand.

Pretaport had this to share, “We as creatives use our cultures, experiences, unique perspectives and overall lives to influence our work. Turning your voice into a brand allows you to reach the eyes you want to have on your work.”

Pretaport also discussed the difficulties of finding your niche, adding, “Branding can be really difficult and sometimes you might not know what your voice is when you first start your creative journey. Push limits, subject yourself to influence, become inspired and experiment, experiment, experiment. Remember, everyone has their superpower and it can take time to find it. But once you do, you’ll know. It’s like finding true love — you’ll know in your heart that this is the one thing that makes you different.”

Demetrius Washington

Demetrius Washington is a photographer whose work can’t be described by one genre alone. He is well-versed in lifestyle, fashion, portrait and wedding photography. His portraits, using natural light, create the radiant and airy style he is known for. Washington was recently published in NUDE Magazine, and plans to have more publications in the coming months.

When asked about publishing work, Washington advised, “I think applying and submitting to publications can be crucially important. The more eyes that see your work is a great thing. It’s important to share your work even if no one likes it. If every creative kept their portfolio from the world. They probably wouldn’t land a dream job that’s for them. Your portfolio needs to be seen to showcase your skill, training and personality.”

Though he started photographing only one year ago, he has made a name for himself with his out-of-the-box concepts, paired with his successful use of the composition and color. Last month, he was published in The Model Magazine. Keep an eye out for him — I believe he will be one of the next big names in photography.
