Two worlds collide for unorthodox collaboration between Lacoste and Keith Haring

On March 27, Lacoste launched a collection along with the late American artist, Keith Haring, and his foundation. The graffiti-like designs are featured in a vast assortment of men’s, women’s and children’s apparel.

Lacoste was founded by professional tennis player René Lacoste in 1933 and is recognizable by its iconic green crocodile logo. In addition to apparel, the lifestyle brand also sells footwear, tennis sportswear, eyewear, leather goods, perfume and watches.

New York street artist Keith Haring, who died in 1990, was well known for his pop art blended with graffiti style. During his career, Haring created public works that often carried social messages. The majority of these were created to support charities, hospitals, children’s day care and orphanages.

In this partnership, Lacoste’s aesthetic is mixed with Haring’s view of youth and New York street culture in the ’80s —reimagining spring style into a collection that featured the artist’s observations and how he translated them into his art and promoted a sense of color and optimism.

Two of Haring’s most iconic designs, the barking dog or “Icons 2” and “Untitled,” are incorporated on T-shirts, on the collar of a polo shirt and on the back of a tennis shoe. The collection’s price range is between $55 and $275 and is being promoted as a one-time collection, available only for the current season.

This project was successful in the sense that it embraces the parallel between Haring’s artistic point of view and mirrors today’s youth and street culture. Both of these themes are being celebrated throughout modern garments that are filled with grace and high spirits.

This collaboration between fashion and art gave us the certainty that Lacoste and Keith Haring share a specific love for self-expression and modern times. Through the choice of color and designs, the collaboration makes sure to be include everyone into this fashion scene.
