On my Instagram “Discover” feed, I have stumbled upon various jewelry accounts that use the buttons on designer clothes for pendants, earrings, rings and bracelets. Two of the best so far have been @harperjvintagedesign and @almajewelryco.

These accounts repurposes and reimagines the buttons with the brand’s initials to make luxury jewelry. The pieces I have seen on @harperjvintagedesign and @almajewelryco range from $80 to $200 retail price, depending on the brand, the design of the button and the way it was up-cycled into jewelry.

The accounts also have a webpage where the viewer can see the item and the proof of authenticity. These up-cycled, designer-buttons jewelry pieces are not always available, so they make special drops with prior announcements of the day and time.

Most of them sell out before I can even begin to look, since the majority of the buttons are rare and vintage, holding special colors and designs.

The owner of @harperjvintagedesign has a special eye and connections in finding the rarest buttons. Her specialty lies in finding special Gucci and Louis Vuitton ones and mainly turning them into chokers and pendants for necklaces.

How the owners of these accounts find the pieces with the best buttons is uncertain, but it is definitely outstanding how they turn secondhand pieces into quirky vintage accessories.
