Selena Gomez’s first Spainsh EP “Revelación” releases March 12.

This is big news for music. The entire EP, Gomez sings in Spanish instead of English. The last time Gomez released a song in Spanish was in 2010. Back when she played Alex in “Wizards of Waverly Place” and singing with The Scene. Simpler times if you were a teenager or older or younger.

Gomez has released two singles from “Revelación”: “De Una Vez” and “Balia Conmigo.” “Balia Conmigo” being the most recent single released to the public. It’s a typical sensual dance song with its strong bass, but you have to add it to your playlist.

It features Puerto Rican artist Rauw Alejandro, a rising star. Alejandro, whose music is a mix of R&B and reggaeton, gained popularity in 2018. Alejandro was featured in Ozuna’s song “Luz Apaga.”

Ozuna is a major star in the community who has worked with Nicky Jam, Bad Bunny, Cardi B and Selena Gomez. So, it makes sense seeing Alejandro is singing alongside Gomez the two could’ve met through Ozuna.

The video, much to my surprise, doesn’t follow Gomez or Alejandro around. In “De Una Vez” it was just Gomez looking pretty with cool graphics. The two singers are only seen in the background on murals or televisions.

Instead the video focus on the story within the song. The first intoxicating meeting-turned-dance between two lovers. “De Una Vez” and “Balia Conmigo” are the yin and yang of music videos. “De Una Vez” captures the heartbreak and its beauty while “Balia Conmigo” captures the lust and excitement of a new relationship.

It makes me slightly excited for the EP; I might even listen to it all the way through. The last time I listened to a whole Selena Gomez album was “Kiss and Tell” in 2009. Not that she hasn’t released good singles, but “Revelación” promises something different from Gomez, and different is always a good thing.
