Sarah Neufeld, a Canadian violinist, has released a new album entitled “Detritus.”

Now before you look away and dismiss Neufeld, you need to know how fabulous this album is. However, it has no words. Neufeld’s beautiful violin playing is complemented by drums, flutes and other various instruments.

Neufeld was a former member of the well-known indie band Arcade Fire, though I believe she still tours with them from time to time. Neufeld also started a contemporary instrumental ensemble called the Bell Orchestre and recorded albums with them.

But back to “Detritus,” Neufeld’s newest album. The album only has seven songs, ranging from four to seven minutes in length. You need to listen to it. Neufeld’s violin playing has a way of submerging you into each song. It’s almost like drowning but peaceful and serene.

If you’re anything like me, most songs have a way of being distracting, especially if you’re writing an essay due in two hours. That’s why “Detritus” is an album worth listening to. I promise it won’t disappoint you.

For how short it is, “Detritus” is a perfect way to pace out your studying sessions, reading sessions or anything you do in your free time. It lets you focus on your work while playing background music that will keep you awake and thoroughly entertained.

But I will say “Detritus” (the song) is skip-worthy. It isn’t as strong as the rest of the songs. “Tumble Down The Undecided” and “Shed Your Dear Heart” are my two favorites, so even if you don’t listen to the whole album, those two are worth a listen.
