Kanye West, former presidential candidate and fashion icon, is ramping up to release his fourth studio album, “DONDA.”

The Island Def Jam Music Group

Now, the origins of the album can be traced back to cinematographer Arthur Jefa who, in May 2020, accidentally revealed that he was working on a project with Kanye called “God’s Country.” A month later, West released the music video that Jefa was working on: “Washed in the Blood.” Soon after that, he took to Twitter confirming that he’d be releasing an album titled “God’s Country.”

However, in July 2020, West went back to Twitter to announce he’s changing the name of the project to “DONDA,” which is the name of his late mother who passed away in November 2007. West then received huge amounts of excitement and anticipation from fans until it eventually died down when his team said nothing about the release date after many months went by.

That is, until now. After February, after multiple networks confirmed him and Kim Kardasian-West’s divorce, West heavily invested in his music and of course his GAP partnership with Yeezy. He then started making waves on Twitter, with multiple artists such as Chris Brown and Lil Baby talking about possibly having a feature on his album and the rumors of his album being released began to solidify once West allowed Justin LaBoy and Kevin Durant privately listen to his entire project and how it was already ahead of its time.

On July 23, West also held a massive listening party on short notice at the Mercedes-Benz stadium in Atlanta. During this event, West featured a section of songs from his upcoming album which featured lil Baby, Travis Scott and even Playboi Carti. This event was hosted by Apple Music and they even had a live stream of the music.

“DONDA” will be released on August 6.
