The Tony’s were hosted on Sept. 26 with the theme: “Broadway is Back,” and boy was it back. Being a big fan of Broadway, I loved seeing all my favorite performers return to the stage and perform iconic musicals theatre numbers. Not only were the vocals and performances were on point, but the outfits were absolutely incredible. I never really watch the Tony’s for the fashion, but this year the fashion was bold, colorful and fun. Just like many other award shows, this was one of the first times celebrities are coming back to the carpet. This led to some amazing looks that are definitely going to start some trends.

Nude dress

Nude is a color that I haven’t seen prominently on the carpet for a while, but this year the Tony’s totally brought it back. Nicolette Robinson in Christian Siriano was absolutely breathtaking the dress was the perfect shade of nude. Wearing a nude with a darker skin complexion can often be tricky because you do not want to blend in with the dress, but you still want the dress to have that nude quality. This dress matched her perfectly and I loved the ruffles on the bottom. Daphne Rubin Vega was serving old Hollywood glamour in a stunning nude silk dress. The dress was uber flattering and hugged her in all the right places. The hair and makeup were simple, but just what the dress needed. Being a person of color, I am often afraid of wearing nude, but these ladies have inspired me to go buy a nude evening gown.

White suits

White is one of those suit colors that can off as very tacky or extremely classy and these men were definitely the latter. Leslie Odom Jr. in Celine was James Bond reimagined. The suit was perfectly tailored and had clean lines that made him look cool and classy. Aaron Tveit in The Row showed us what the white suit would look like in 2021. This suit was extremely trendy with the loose, high waited and wide-leg pants, but the shirt and blazer pulled the look together and made it classy. Men: don’t wear the tacky, ill-fitted white prom tux, take some notes from these men and reinvent class.

Pink suits

I believe all men can pull off pink, the majority of them are just afraid to try the color. When I saw Jeremy Pope in Louis Vuitton, my jaw dropped. This hot pink ensemble was something I did not know I needed. From everything being extremely well-tailored and the power of monochrome, this look might have to be my favorite from the night. Jake Gyllenhaal in Prada also pleasantly surprised me. The baby pink suit, complete with a silk collar and cumberbund was somehow too effortless and put together at the same time. The look was relaxed and yet felt very intentional. Both these looks are on opposite sides of the intensity of the hue, but both showed us that men should embrace pink and incorporate it into their wardrobe.

Green!

Green is not a color I often see have such a prominent role on a red carpet, but the Tony’s brought some incredible looks with this hue. Beanie Feldstein in Christian Siriano was an absolute explosion of fun, from the color choice to the style of the dress. Set to be the star in Broadway revival of “Funny Girl,” Beanie made a statement. The length and color of the dress add that element of fun and youthfulness that is often missing from red carpets. Debra Messing in Monique Lhuillier also looked beautiful, though I found her dress style to be a little outdated, the color was absolutely gorgeous. Derek Klena looked very handsome in his emerald suede blazer, showing us how to incorporate green in a more subtle and classy way.

Overall, this was one of my favorite Tony red carpets. The looks were unique and were different from the standard black tie. The celebrities were taking risks and wanting to have fun with their style, and the outcome was a burst of color and fun for the whole event.
