The Connector
The Connector

The amount of resources online has truly made fashion attainable and digestible by many. I think we are spoiled by the amount of information that is readily available to us, and most of the time, it’s free of cost. Here is a list of all the resources I use daily and think that all fashion students could benefit from.

Vogue Runway

Vogue Runway is an app and website that has records of every fashion show dating back to 1988. The shows are divided by season and designer, making the website very easy to use. Important shows also have reviews by critics, but the reason I use them a lot is to trend analysis. I like to revisit all the shows and see what things are being repeated throughout all the shows. The images are beautiful and it is a great website.

Tagwalk

Tagwalk is an absolutely amazing tool that is completely free. It is very much like WGSN, but without the hefty price tag. The website has all the fashion shows of each season and has very in-depth trend reports. The website comes in handy when making an assortment of plans or while getting inspired for your next design project. I highly recommend you explore this website because it is very user-friendly and has a wealth of knowledge.

WGSN

Speaking of WGSN, this website is truly my favorite on the list. The amount of information on this website is incomparable, and it is so valuable when it comes to predicting future trends. The website is very easy to use, and you can download all the images and reports. The only con is the high price tag for membership, but as SCAD students, we all get free access to the website. To access the website, go to the SCAD library page on MySCAD and then click databases, find WGSN and create an account. I have used this resource for all my fashion classes and have been so satisfied with the information I found.

Digitized Museums

Due to the pandemic, many museums amped up digitizing their collections. Now, most museums have their entire collection online for everyone to view. You can find high-quality images of the artwork along with a detailed backstory and explanation. I have gotten so much inspiration from seeing the different artworks, and have learned so much from the synopsis. A big perk for fashion students is that now most costume institutes have also been digitized so you can view some of the best collections from the comfort of your home. Below is a link that lists all the different museums.

There are new websites and resources coming up every day, and it is hard to keep up with the amount of knowledge available to us. SCAD provides us with subscriptions to many different resources such as WGSN and Women’s Wear Daily, but here are some other resources that I have used and loved.
